CLAIRE QUIGLEY
I learned to weave in 1988 at a part-time class, having already studied Creative Arts with a focus on photography. I soon realised that tapestry weaving was my favourite medium enabling me to ‘paint’ with wool. I love the colours and textures of yarns and the freedom that tapestry provides to build up areas of design and colour without having to work strictly in rows.
I am inspired by both beautiful landscapes, allotments and gardens and textiles from around the world. I seek inspiration by going to exhibitions and visiting new places and I link regularly with other weavers.
With a strong environmentally responsible ethos, I use materials from sustainable sources where possible, including rug wool remnants from the carpet industry. I prefer to use a cotton and linen warp and I weave on wooden frames of different sizes.
